Behind every story-telling child and young person at 100 Story Building is a supportive network of talented and amazing volunteers.

You don’t need to be a wordsmith, just someone who is committed to helping children and young people share their voice. Our volunteers come with all sorts of skills and experiences, with backgrounds in creative industries, education, IT, legal, finance and media.

100 Story Building belongs to our volunteers as much as it does to the young writers we serve, so we encourage and support volunteers to contribute to 100 Story Building in a way that is meaningful to them and draws on their interests.

Most opportunities are based at 100 Story Building, but occasionally they are available online or remotely. We provide induction and training for all our volunteers, and welcome volunteers to share and develop their skills with us.

All volunteers require a current Working with Children’s check. You can read more about our volunteer recruitment process here.

100 Story Building is committed to the protection of children and young people. You can read our Child Protection Policy April 2017.

We have a recruitment and training session coming up on 23rd February 2019. Register your interest if you would like to find out more.

Volunteer opportunities working with children are Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm. Here are the ways you can volunteer:

Working one-on-one with children and young people at 100 Story Building and in schools, you inspire, support and mentor students to engage with reading and writing. Seriously, you make magic happen and we couldn’t run our programs without you.

On-going, Monday-Friday.

Workshop Presenters

Know a lot about something rad? We want you to share it with the kids at 100 Story Building. We’ve had knowledgeable people, including publishers, editors, writers, illustrators, designers and booksellers, in to share their skills and are always looking for more.

Project-based, Monday-Friday.

Workshop Facilitators

Got a great idea for a workshop? Want to share your poetry, comic or journalism skills with a group of eager young writers? You, my friend, need to get in touch. Stat. 100 Story Building will help you develop, design resources and deliver your project.

Project-based, Monday-Friday.

If you create and work with words, whatever your medium, we want to get you involved our programs. You could be a co-author in a collaborative publishing project such as Pigeon Letters, or talk a group of students through story arcs in an after-school workshop.

Project-based, Monday-Friday.

OK, so we lied a bit about there being 100 stories. There’s more. These children and young people are BURSTING with stories, which means we always need folk of the eagle-eyed kind to proofread and edit the books, pages and reports that call 100 Story Building home.

Project-based, can be done remotely.

Dang! You make stuff look good! Stuff like early harvest, this website, posters and other nice things we use to share our stories.

Project-based, can be done remotely.

Admin Superstars

Because sometimes we just need a Photocopier Whisperer, Database Master and Spreadsheet Wrangler. Want to win the love of an entire organisation? This is the way to our hearts.

On-going, always, can be done remotely.

Something else you would like to do? Just let us know when you register.
