Creativity Hack: What do you think?

The worst thing about creative tasks is that there is no right answer. It is also the best thing about them!

The key lies in building the confidence of the young creatives in their own voice and decision making.

Here’s how we do it at 100 Story Building.

Whenever young writers ask us what should they do next, our creative facilitators say: ‘I don’t know. What do you think?’

And we give them time to think and come up with ideas.

Here’s a the conversation might go in our workshops.

Child: What should I draw next?

Our facilitator: I don’t know, what do you think?

[thinks for a while]

Child: ...maybe they could get eaten by the octo-seal?

Our facilitator: That sounds great! Draw a picture so I can see!

Doing this shows them that every answer is valid, and that they are the expert about their own stories. This makes them more confident in their own creativity!
