Our Early Harvest schools for 2024

Early Harvest is our long-running program that supports students to write and edit a professionally published book. 2024 is Early Harvest’s thirteenth year, and we think that’s pretty lucky! Especially for this year’s participating schools, new and returning, who we’re very pleased to announce today.

The schools returning to Early Harvest in 2024 are:

  • Kingsville Primary School

  • St Gerard's Primary School

  • Newport Lakes Primary School

  • Spotswood Primary School

And the new schools joining the program for the first time are:

  • Riddells Creek Primary School

  • St Albans Meadows Primary School

  • Balwyn North Primary School

They’re in school uniform, sitting on some wooden steps outside on school grounds, each reading a copy of that year’s book, Unboring Exploring. In the front row, left to right, are Eden, James and Mali, whose stories were all selected by the editors to be published. Photo by Brenna Ternus.

These schools will all take part in the Early Harvest School Program over three terms. Their teachers will be supported to deliver a narrative unit in which every Year 5 and 6 student will help choose a theme for the program, then write and edit a short story fitting the theme they can submit to be published in a professionally-designed, published and distributed anthology. Along the way they’ll be helped by 100 Story Building facilitators, and a professional author or two who’ll answer their questions about how to make a great story.

In addition, students from those schools can apply to be part of the Editorial Program. Those chosen will join the editorial team, who will field and offer feedback on all submissions, select the entries to be published, commission artwork and fiction from professional artists and writers, and make all the creative decisions to produce the book.

We can’t wait to see what students from all of our 2024 participating schools come up with. They’re at the start of a very exciting journey!

And there’s still room for a couple more schools in 2024. If you’re interested in joining the Early Harvest program, please submit your EOI via our form, or visit the Early Harvest page for more information.
