early harvest issue six launched!

On 11 November 2017, 100 Story Building hosted the ultimate criminal conference at The Bowery Theatre in St Albans. Thirteen young Early Harvest editors launched early harvest issue six before an audience of nearly 200 guests. The young editors chose Crime and Murder Mystery as the theme of the issue this year. It features mind-boggling mysteries, diabolical villains, criminal quizzes and nefarious games by aspiring young writers from Melbourne’s west and a sprinkling of Australia’s best-loved children’s book authors. The criminal conference also featured masterclasses in confusing the crime scene, safe cracking, taking mugshot selfies, pick pocketing, making fake IDs and building dream evidence walls.Early Harvest is a dynamic school program, which brings together an editorial board of upper-primary students, and provides them with mentoring and workshops to publish an issue of the yearly literary journal early harvest. For 2017, the young editors and authors came from thirteen schools in Melbourne’s west. The editors invited submissions, selected authors, commissioned artists, edited stories, created illustration briefs and produced the magazine under the mentorship of professionals from the publishing industry.Author and 100 Story Building Ambassador Maxine Beneba Clarke officially launched the magazine on behalf of the young editors. Children's authors Andy Griffiths (author of the Treehouse series), Andrew McDonald (author of Son of Death and The Greatest Blogger in the World) and George Ivanoff (author of the You Choose series) who contributed to the magazine also attended the launch. The event also featured a raffle sponsored by Museums Victoria, The Younger Sun Bookshop, 234FunGalore, Lollypop’s Playland and Café, Inflatable World and Funtopia. The launch was a part of the Brimbank Writers & Readers Festival, supported by Brimbank City Council.Early Harvest 2017 program was made possible thanks to support from Bank of Melbourne Neighbourhood Fund. You can buy early harvest issue six here
