Helen Graham (she/they) is our Story Hub Artist for Glengala Primary School. They are an artist & illustrator based in Naarm (Melbourne). They nurture a passion for all things fantasy, wholesome, queer, adventurous, as well as advocating for accessible art in both practise and presentation. Helen has been working on the co-design of a Story Hub with students and teachers at Glengala Primary School. Find out more about Story Hubs here.
“When I met the students of Glengala Primary School, it soon became apparent that I was facing a challenge demanding all my might as the students began to describe a collision of realities. It was clear that [their Story Hub] was not going to be a simple design, but rather a meeting place between unlikely foes.
A cloud kingdom wages war with a booger realm, while a sentient car traverses dimensions and crushes skeletons. Monsters - part snake, part dog, find homes behind impenetrable doors. Pastels spill across landscapes of rolling hills, sunsets, and homely structures crusted in candy.
The imagination was vast, and uniting it was the a task undertook between myself, 100 Story Building, and the students. I wanted to keep nods to key elements the students were captivated by, and so we landed on a [Story Hub] space that is a junction between several dimensions.
Students will have the opportunity to come into this place of crossroads, with many worlds seemingly a step away. The Story Hub will be a place where students can peer between dimensions, and unearth their own new worlds throughout the journey.”
We are excited to see the build of the Story Hub commence and launch later in the year. Well done Helen and Glengala Primary on creating a wonderous space for all to enjoy.
