Early Harvest 2017 launch

You are invited to the launch of Early Harvest 2017, a magazine by children for children.

The theme of the magazine this year is CRIME and MURDER MYSTERY, and it features mind-boggling mysteries, diabolical villains, criminal quizzes and nefarious games by aspiring young writers from Melbourne’s west and a sprinkling of Australia’s best-loved children’s book authors.

At the launch, the young editors of early harvest issue six will discuss how they gathered intelligence on their audience, assessed the fiendish workings of plot and constructed their ultimate criminal dossier. The launch will also feature a raffle, a sausage sizzle and a masterclass on how to disappear into the shadows with a quick switch of...sunglasses, for example!

The thirteen young editors are in grade five and six and come from eight different schools. Over ten workshops they invited submissions, selected authors, commissioned artists, edited stories, created illustration briefs and produced the magazine under the mentorship of professionals from the publishing industry.

This issue features contributions by children alongside Andy Griffiths (author of the Treehouse series), Davina Bell (author of The Underwater Fancy Dress Parade and Oh, Albert!),Andrew McDonald (author of Son of Death and The Greatest Blogger in the World) and George Ivanoff (author of the You Choose series).

You can read more about early harvest issue six here.

We invite children, families and supporters of 100 Story Building to join the young criminal masterminds for the launch and celebrate the creative spirit of the young editors and authors! The launch is a part of the Brimbank Writers & Readers Festival, supported by Brimbank City Council.

This year’s Early Harvest program was made possible thanks to support from Bank of Melbourne Neighbourhood Fund.
