Moonee Valley Book Club

The Moonee Valley City Council engaged 100 Story Building to revitalise a declining book club at the Djerring Hub in Flemington.

The program supports children aged 8–12 from migrant and English as an Additional Language (CALD) backgrounds, many of whom are navigating disrupted schooling, lower literacy levels and the impacts of public housing redevelopment in Flemington.

What began as a traditional reading group was no longer engaging young people. Together, we reimagined the model, shifting from reading to creative participation, storytelling and authorship.

Over five workshops, participants created original stories, comics and zines, culminating in a professionally printed anthology that celebrates their voices and experiences.
