Maribyrnong City Council, Flood Recovery Project
Following the 2022 Maribyrnong floods, the community identified a critical gap in the recovery process: the voices of children and young people were largely missing.
Through community consultation, including a Community Recovery Committee workshop, residents prioritised a storytelling project and children’s book to capture lived experiences of the flood and support healing.
Alongside broader concerns about wellbeing, stress and the ongoing impact of the disaster on young people, there was a strong desire to create space for children to process what had happened and share their stories.
100 Story Building was engaged by Maribyrnong City Council to co-design a creative, trauma-informed response with local children and families, ensuring their experiences were not only heard, but preserved as part of the community’s recovery.
